The COoL-AMmetropolis project, funded by the French National Research Agency (2020-2023), is led by a group of 5 partners, including 4 laboratories from Aix Marseille University: IMBE, CNRM, OSU-Pythéas, LIEU and ATMO Sud and associates 5 technical partners: LSCE, INRA/URFM, ESPACE, MIO, CEA-CAD/DTN, and the GNS New-Zeeland); GREC-SUD, as a subcontractor, will contribute its expertise for the transfer of the knowledge acquired within the framework of the project and for the interactions with all the local actors, in particular through the organisation of annual seminars.
This project aims, on the one hand, to characterise CO2 emissions and heat islands in the Aix-Marseille Provence Metropolis and, on the other hand, to propose strategies for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and heat islands (ICU)
The objectives of this project are to :
- characterise and improve the spatio-temporal representation of fossil CO2 emissions and compare them with biogenic emissions (gas emissions resulting from the decomposition of organic matter either in soils or vegetation),
- characterize the variability of CIP and CO2 concentrations according to the seasons at all spatial scales over the metropolitan territory,
- define and evaluate the benefits of climate change adaptation scenarios up to 2035 in terms of CO2 and UCI as they could be built by the metropolis.
This last objective therefore requires finding the most effective way to integrate virtuous scenarios relating to different sectors of activity (transport, building renovation, nature in the city...), defined in interaction with local stakeholders and political decision-makers, into legal urban planning documents, associated legal tools and practices.
A meeting to present and launch the project was held on 15 December 2020, at which the Nature For City LIFE project team was involved in view of the cross-cutting issues between these two projects and possible collaborations with, in particular, the monitoring action relating to the installation of micro-sensors whose data could be reused by the Cool AMmetropolis project.
